Horse Riding Holidays in CUBA

 
Cuba is the largest, most diverse, and most beautiful of the Greater Antilles islands - “The Pearl of the Antilles.” Numerous bays, peninsulas, and costal reefs give Cuba a shoreline of 3,117 miles with more than 280 natural beaches. A wonderful destination for a horse riding holiday.

The island was first inhabited by various Indian tribes that made their way through the Caribbean Island chain searching for fruitful lands and seas, both of which were provided by Cuba's fertile soil and rich waters. The island has a subtropical climate, momentous mineral resources, and immense areas of level fertile land fitting for farming.

Landed by Christopher Colombus on his first voyage of discovery in 1492 the island became a Spanish colony, was even briefly ruled by the English in 1792 before being returned to Spain in return for Florida. A series of rebellions failed to end Spanish rule however in 1902 Cuba finally gained its own independance.

In the years following independance Cuba came under the control of various despotic and corrupt rulers until the last dictator was overthrown by the communist revolutionary Fidel Castro during the 1953-9 Cuban Revolution. Cuba has since been ruled by Catro's Communist Party of Cuba, led now by Fidel's brother Raul.

The incredible history of this small island, the Caribbean climate and diverse cultures - Indian, Spanish, African - have blended to create a hot culture full of life.

There is a strong artistic presence among the Cuban people, whether from artists formally trained in state-provided art schools, or self-taught amateurs. Music plays a huge role in their culture and several popular forms of music and dance such as salsa and the cha-cha-cha originated here.
