Day 1
Upon arrival at a hotel in the charming town of San Martín de los Andes, riders can settle in and unwind after the journey. In the evening, meet fellow riders over a welcome dinner, get to know the group and discuss the exciting days ahead.

Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, riders will be picked up to be transferred to the stables. A light lunch awaits and this is the perfect time to take in the beauty of the surroundings before being carefully matched with a horse suited to their riding style and experience level. Once everyone is comfortable, they will saddle up for an introductory ride towards Mallín Escondido. Upon arrival at the camp, settle in and enjoy a traditional Argentine asado (barbecue) cooked over an open fire. The day will end under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of nature. (3 hours riding)

Day 3
Following a nourishing breakfast, riders will mount up and begin the day’s journey towards Voladero Camp. The ride starts with a descent along the southern slope of the valley, offering breathtaking views of the Rucachoroi ridge. The route then leads to the Quillén River, where the group will cross to the north shore to enjoy a scenic lunch by the water. The afternoon ride follows the northern slope of the Quillén Valley, providing stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Arrive at Voladero Camp in time for a well-earned dinner and a restful night. (4 hours riding)

Day 4
The day's ride will be longer, rewarding riders with some of the most awe-inspiring views of the trip. The ascent begins along moderate slopes until reaching Mallín del Picudo, a peaceful meadow where lunch will be served. After a well-deserved rest, the journey will continue through enchanting araucaria forests, followed by a descent down Loma de los Chivos via a steep trail that opens up to a breathtaking vista of Lanín Volcano and Quillén Lake. The day will conclude at Malalco, the main camp, where riders can relax with a hot shower before enjoying a delicious dinner by the fire. (6 hours riding)

Day 5
The morning will begin with a gentle ride to the dock, where a boat awaits to ferry the group across the lake to the pristine shores of Lumillas Beach. Riders will spend the afternoon relaxing by the water, with a lakeside lunch cooked over an open fire. After soaking up the tranquil scenery, return by boat to the dock and mount up for a short ride back to Malalco Camp. (2 hours riding)

Day 6
Today’s adventure will take the group to the highest peak in the region, standing at 2,320 meters above sea level. Departing from camp, begin the ascent through a variety of landscapes, including lush lenga forests, reed-filled wetlands, and striking araucaria groves. The final stretch brings riders to a set of stunning lagoons nestled in what locals believe to be the crater of an ancient volcano. A well-earned lunch will be enjoyed in this incredible setting. Those with the energy can take a short hike to the summit for a breathtaking 360-degree view of the seven surrounding volcanoes and the majestic Andes. The group will retrace their path back to camp for a celebratory dinner and overnight stay. (6 hours riding)

Horses & Riding

There are 24 horses including Criollo crosses and part Anglo-Norman, of varying heights, although there are also mestizos. They are sure-footed with good temperaments. The tack is mountain range saddles from Arandú and saddlebags are also provided. There are also Entre Ríos saddle types available. Although much of the ride is conducted at the walk, due to the mountainous nature of the trails, riders need to be experienced in controlling their horse in a group on sloped terrain.

Wildlife

Patagonia is one of the largest and most diverse nature reserves in the world spanning an impressive 402,700 square miles. It stretches across the southernmost region of South America and is shared by Argentina and Chile. Separating the two countries, yet not dividing the nature reserve, is the impressive Andes mountain range.
If you are lucky you may get to see the Patagonian Puma or its prey the Guanacos. You may come across a variety of foxes, hares and armadillo. One of the most impressive birds of prey is the Andean Condor. This large black vulture is recognizable by its contrasting white feathers along the base of its neck and wings and likes to feed on large carcasses of deer or cattle.

Other Country Information

Argentina is the second largest country in Latin America after Brazil (almost all the countries of Western Europe and Scandinavia could fit inside Argentina's land mass). The country is diverse and includes rain forest in the north, vast areas of fertile farming land in the centre, the Andean mountain range to the west and the desolate plains of Patagonia in the south, leading down to glaciers at the southern tip. Argentina has the world's southernmost city (Ushaia). Despite Argentina's recent economic woes, its pleasures - stunning natural wonders, an elegant capital and a passionate culture - are still as tempting as ever. Argentina has a distinctly European feel, Argentinians are much more European in temperament than their South American neighbours but their Latin spirit is still evident such as in their love of football and in the tempestuous dance of the Tango. Argentina is three hours behind GMT. Remember in the summer the UK is one hour ahead of GMT and daylight savings is not in use in Argentina. They use the metric weights and measures system, so kilometres and kilograms instead of miles and pounds. There is approximately 1.6 kilometres in a mile and 2.2 pounds in a kilogram. The international dialling code is +54.
