The beaches which extends from Ras Al Hadd to Masirah Island are considered a turtle reserve especially for the rare green turtle that returns each year to the same beach to lay its eggs. The breeding season extends to some degree throughout the year. There is also an Oryx Sanctuary in the Omani Central Desert and Coastal Hills.
Muscat is a mixture of ancient heritage and modern style and allows Oman to preserve the historic character. The old markets are full of traditional handicrafts such as silver, gold, textiles and daggers and are situated next to the modern shopping centres.
