A Little Bit About Morocco
Morocco is Africa and the Middle East rolled into one, it’s a country that truly embodies diverse cultural representation with middle eastern values predominating on the coastal areas and Bedouin culture further inland. The landscapes vary from coastal plains and beaches, through the high Atlas Mountains, the stony desert and the sand dunes of the Sahara desert. It offers many opportunities for adventure seekers. Whether you're looking to escape the winter chill or a summer sun getaway, Morocco can cater to your needs.
One of the country's unique features is its liberal attitude towards women's rights despite being a Muslim country. For those looking to experience traditional horse-riding, Morocco is a prime destination. The country offers passionate horse-riding communities, traditional Arab/Barb horses, and the chance to ride stallions instead of geldings. You'll have the opportunity to stay in private accommodations and enjoy home-cooked dishes filled with exciting flavors. Morocco truly has something to offer for every adventurer looking for exploration and cultural exposure.

Horse Riding Holidays in Several Areas of Morocco
Essaouira: Essaouira (which is pronounced 'Essa-weir-a') lies on the west coast and is very popular amongst the Moroccans. The Portuguese established trading posts here hundreds of years ago. It’s a chic seaside town but it still has a busy port and boat building industry. You can watch the fisherman precariously fishing from the rocks, walk the ramparts, get lost in the medina or take part in the daily fish auction. You can catch the rays on the beautiful large beach, ride the surf or swim in the ocean - but you may be joined on your swim by the odd beach camel or horse! Essaouira is one of the best locations in the world for kite surfing and wind surfing, with the powerful trade winds blowing almost constantly onto the protected, almost waveless bay. Our Essaouira beach holiday is a week long trail along the coast and features plenty of riding along endless beaches interspersed with date palms, sand dunes and rocky peaks with views over the ocean.
Atlas Mountains: The Atlas Mountains offer the perfect landscape for horse riding, with breathtaking views and diverse terrain to explore. They are located in the north-west of Morocco and stretch over 2,400km. The High Atlas Mountains are home to Morocco's highest peak, Mount Toubkal, standing at an impressive 4,167 meters. Our Central Atlas Mountain Trail is the ideal choice for intermediate riders who want to stretch their skills on sensible Barb Arab stallions. This trail is camping-based, so you'll really get to feel the adventure of being on the open road and feel a connection with riders who have traversed these ancient routes for millennia on horses.
Agadir: Agadir is situated in the western part of Morocco, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It's a popular destination for tourists and offers a great mix of relaxation, adventure, and culture. Our Agadir Beach Ranch is just 2km from the unspoilt beach, and is suitable for intermediate riders onwards and non-riders. You'll also enjoy thehacienda style guesthouse with a relaxed atmosphere.
Marrakech: For a shorter break, why not try our Marrakech Short Break, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains beside the Toubkal National Park, and just a short distance away from the airport. Riding for 2-4 hours each day, each trip is tailored for the experience level of the rider, from beginner onwards, with skilled guides working accordingly. Stay in Bedouin tents, relax, enjoy other attractions and trips and experience the finest of local, traditional cooking.
Morocco is a Year-Round Destination
Morocco is a year-round destination that offers something for everyone. It is perhaps at its best in Spring (mid-March to May) when the country is lush and green. In the summer it is very hot - so head for the coast or High Atlas Mountains, and in the winter when it can be very cold in the mountains, head for the desert. Snow can be seen on the peaks of the High Atlas from November to July. Autumn is very pleasant in all locations after the heat of the summer. We offer equestrian vacations in Morocco throughout the year, so you'll see plenty of dates in our calendar to choose from.
