Named for the legendary Zambezi River, Zambia is a landlocked country bordered by eight different African countries. The Great Rift Valley begins in the lower Zambezi, making it one of the cradles of humankind, and the sense of ancient history is almost palpable when visiting this magnificent country.
The sub-tropical climate, abundance of game, breathtaking landscapes, and friendly people make this the ideal destination for a horse riding adventure. Zambia has always been popular with safari lovers, and a horseback safari in Zambia is the perfect way to see the country and get up close to the game.
The mighty Victoria Falls forms the natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Known as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the smoke that thunders) due to the noise of the falling water and the accompanying colossal spray, it is the country’s most popular and well-known tourist attraction.
With the status of the fastest growing economies on the African continent, ethical tourism is crucial to the country’s on-going development, and the local people are respectful of the land.
The Best Time of Year for a Horse Riding Holiday in Zambia
Quite truthfully, any time of the year is a good time to visit. There are three distinct seasons in Zambia, and although some of our rides have set departure dates between June and January, they can be booked at any time of year for riding groups. November to April are the warmest months, with plenty of cooling showers followed by bright sunshine. While some roads may become temporarily un-passable, the vegetation thrives. In May to August the temperatures drop, making for cool evenings and comfortable riding days. From August to November the weather warms and dry. Zambia’s higher altitude makes the sub-tropical climate cooler and more temperate than expected.
