This is a most fascinating country and the Unicorn Trails' horse riding holiday in Jordan, in the Wadi Rum region, has some of the most spectacular desert scenery that you are likely to see. Apart from awesome scenery Jordan has biblical stories, lost cities, Lawrence of Arabia, Indiana Jones, the fabulous Red Sea and the bizarre Dead Sea. It extends a warm welcome to tourists of all nationalities and religions.
Wadi Rum is the land of the legendary T.E.Lawrence (and every local that you chat to will declare they are related to him), and the blockbuster film Lawrence of Arabia (and every local will declare that either they or a member of their family worked on the film)! They will love telling you their stories. Regardless of how true these stories are, the red moonscape desert of Wadi Rum with its towering weathered sandstone rock formations is nothing short of stunning. This is Bedouin country and you will spot their camps dotted around the desert. Our exhilorating riding holiday in Jordan is for fit riders who can ride at all paces including galloping. The horses, Bedouin Arabs, Pure Arabs and Anglo Arabs, are ideal for the climate and terrain.
Our riders have the added advantage that the Wadi Rum horseback ride also takes in a visit to Petra and the Red Sea.
The hidden rose city of Petra is a world heritage site and was rediscovered in 1812 having been lost for 1,000 years. Many of you will seen its incredible, immense buidlings and facades carved directly into the rock, in the film 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'. A visit to ancient Petra is truly jaw-dropping and can be compared to the pyramids at Giza or the sacred Inca sites. It is a must-see location and a wonderful experience before the Wadi Rum horse back adventure.
Aqaba is a delightful seaside town on the edge of the Red Sea. Our riders can relax here after their exhilorating desert riding. If you still have the energy you can go snorkling or scuba diving in the truly oustanding corals of The Red Sea -argueably the best corals in the world, though the Australians may not agree! Wind surfing and other water sports can also be arranged.
Why not extend your horseback holiday in Jordan to take in some of the country's other sites.
Yes, you really can read your newspaper whilst floating in the salty Dead Sea, 400 metres below sea level. Accommodation here is often in very luxurious spa hotels with several Dead Sea mud treatments available. In theory the minerals in the mud will leave your skin silky soft and don't forget there's always the option of a free do-it-yourself mud session on the beach.
Perhaps you'd like to visit Mount Nebo where the Bible tells us Moses stood and viewed the promised land. Stand here yourself and look across the River Jordan to Jerico on the West Bank. On a really clear day you can see Jerusalem.
Another option is to visit Amman, Jordan's captial city. There are many sight seeing opportunities from here. Wander around the ancient city of Jerash, 2000 years old.
We can arrange these add-ons either before or after your riding holiday so that you can see more that this interesting country has to offer. Luxury desert aventures can be tailor made to your requirements. Your adventure in Jordan awaits you!
