Hungary is a perfect location for a horse riding holiday. Despite its small size, this country in Central Europe is amazing. Its citizens are extremely patriotic. Its first settlers came via Russia. Then in spite of invasions by the Mongols and occupations by Turkey and then Austria, followed by communist domination, the Hungarians have retained their individual culture, customs and language.
Horses and horsemanship play an important role in the lives of many Hungarians. There are many stud farms scattered throughout Hungary. Carriage driving is also popular. The diverse scenery and numerous national parks enhance all horseback holidays. If you want to find authentic Hungarian cowboys then head for the huge prairie (the Puszta). Stunning Lake Balaton is Europe's largest fresh water lake. You'll also discover the many vineyards which produce the most wonderful wine. Like Ireland, Hungary places no restrictions on riders.
Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is one of the world's most beautiful cities. The river Danube flows through it dividing the historic hilly Buda from the modern commercial Pest. The city is steeped in the arts and you'll discover glorious architecture, particularly in Buda.

Our ride in Balaton Meadows is the perfect all round riding holiday. The centre based accommodation is in a comfortable modern country house which has a swimming pool and tennis courts. Meals are taken in the excellent restaurant. The riding here takes you through oak forests and glorious meadows. You'll be able to stop off at local wineries and naturally there's the opportunity to taste the vino! This is a ride for everyone as all levels of riding are catered for. The horses are gentle part bred Hungarian horses. They are responsive and enthusiastic ranging in size from 15hh to 17.2hh. For beginners, there is slower riding in the school and qualified instruction is available.
Our second ride, Somogy Nature Trail, is also in the Balaton area of Hungary is a riding adventure. This is a trail ride and is suitable for experienced riders only who like to ride fast. You'll ride through an area rich in wildlife including some of the rarest in Europe. Accommodation each night is basic - either lakeside lodges or rustic hostals. You'll be able to swim in the lakes after a long day's riding.
