Canada is a delightful country full of friendly people all out to help you get the most from your riding holiday. This centre-based stay is an ideal alternative to a longer trail ride through the area such as the Snowy Landscapes or the Autumn Highlights, although it may be possible to arrange a mini-trail (just out for one or two nights) for small groups of up to 3 people.
Canada is a family-orientated country and families (with children aged 12 and over) are welcome at the ranch, with the possibility of camping in a teepee. Besides riding, or perhaps for non-riders, then the food is a real highlight and you are able to enjoy their spa. There is a lot to see and do in the Quebec area and we recommend car hire to get the most from your holiday. We are happy to arrange this for you, just ask at the time of booking.
No supplement if willing to share. Otherwise:
2010: £185/€225/$285
SAMPLE ITINERARY - QUEBEC GASTRONOMY WEEK
Programme
There is no set intinerary for this holiday as it is designed to be very flexible and adaptable. There may be the opportunity for a minitrail for groups of 2-3 people. The programme is available all year round except those days which clash with the trail rides Snowy Landscapes and Autumn Highlights.
This should be popular in the summer when it is not possible to do the point-to-point trail rides and is perfect for families as there is lots to do when not riding. Car rental combined with this holiday gives more flexibility. The food on this ride is outstanding!
On the last day you can be dropped off in Quebec City in the mornnig to enjoy a day exploring this colourful and historic city. The city is small enough to get around on foot and has many small cobbled streets, ramparts and cafes/art galleries.
Horses and Riding
Horses are Quarter horses, Appaloosas or Canadians, all good natured and gentle and perfectly adapted to the terrain. Some are more spirited and there are some real schoolmasters.
Riders should be able to walk, trot and canter on a good horse and have experience hacking out. Riding is at all paces. The terrain is varied with gently rolling hills and soft tracks, woods and view points. English or Western tack is available.
Accommodation and Food
Accommodation is in comfortable lodgings, the Country Inn has single and double rooms most en suite. The Inn also has a hot tub/jacuzzi and can arrange massage. On some trips we can arrange a mini trail with night out camping in a teepee.
The food is a real feature of this ride. Gina's husband Gilles trained as a chef in the southwest of France before moving to Quebec province. Most of the produce is grown either on the farm of locally and organically and the flavours are exceptional. The Inn has a restaurant which is popular with locals and offers outstanding food. Riders who are willing to share will not have to pay a single supplement; otherwise it will be £139 in 2010.
Other Activities There are many beautiful lakes around the ranch, Lake St- François, 30 km long, Lake Drolet 10 km long, Lake Mégantic 20km long - 30 min driving. There is a river on the farm, where trout fishing with flies can be done.
The area has 2 national parks and beautiful mountain views as well as the lakes all providing many hiking opoprtunities. There is are nearby museums, a native American wildlife zoo, canoeing and kayaking is available 15 min from the ranch - a real Canadian experience!
Extensions
We suggest the historic city of Quebec as being a wonderful few days to add on to this trip.
