This horse riding holiday in Germany is a high quality trail ride in the Eifel to, and along, the Rhine River visiting many castles en route. We ride along historic middle age routes on forward going horses of substantial quality. The riding is western style, relaxed and at all paces. The region is mountainous and wooded with beautiful views. We pass many castles as well as ancient ruins - a sign of the prosperous trade that has dominated the Rhine region for centuries. Overnight accommodation is of a good quality in hotels and inns with regional food and drink to match.

SAMPLE ITINERARY - CASTLES OF THE RHINE
Day 1 - Tuesday
Arrive in Germany at Frankfurt Hahn Airport in time for the 5pm transfer to your first guest house (about an hour drive), settle in and enjoy a good dinner.
Day 2
A relaxed start to the day with an opportunity to sleep late before a full breakfast. Meet the horses. We start todays ride after lunch at about 2pm. We ride via romantic woods and beautiful valleys to the historic town of Monreal. Here we enjoy a wine tasting with wine growers vespers in the vaulted wine vellar or Knight's Hall. We overnight in the rooms of the Wine Gallery.
Day 3 After an extensive breakfast we ride through the old lanes of Monreal and past the Lions' Castle. We trot and canter on to Erztal and enjoy a picnic lunch in the ruins of the old cloister. After lunch we continue to descend via the Castle of Pyrmont to a country inn at the Mill Pond, which is our overnight destination. Here we enjoy the good food and open fires before retiring to a lovely soft bed.
Day 4 After a good breakfast we saddle up and head off at a good pace. Cantering through the Brodenbachtal on to the Buchholzer heights, around the Seibelskopfchen down to Boppard. A well deserved midday rest along the Rhine promenade watching the ferries cross the mighty Rhine River. In the afternoon we enjoy panoramic ride along the Rhine Heights to the Hofgut Dachsborn.
Day 5
The food is excellent on this ride and today's fine breakfast board is no exception. After breakfast saddle up and ride via the gap to the Hubertus's spring. Our midday rest today is at a pony hotel. After lunch we head of again, trotting and an occasional canter along the Limes to our evening spot.
Day 6 Today is the last leg of our trip. We ride with the usual lunch stop till about 5pm. reach the end of our ride. We finish with a traditional coffee board in the old Mill. Transfer to hotel and last dinner.
Day 7 After a last full German breakfast we transfer back to Frankfurt Hahn for 11am.
All itineraries are given as guidance only and may be altered in accordance with local factors. This trail may be ridden in reverse on some dates.
NOTES - CASTLES OF THE RHINE
Single supplement
On this horse riding holiday it is not possible to guarantee a single room on every night of this trail and you should be prepared to share. However, depending on the group size it may be possible to secure a single room on some nights for about €20 per night, payable on site. Please let us know upon booking if you would like a single room and we can forewarn the hosts for you.
The weight limit for this ride is 15 st/209 lb/95 kg, please enquire if you are an experienced rider exceeding this weight.
