QUERCY TRAIL, DORDOGNE - FRANCE

more photos | book | ride reviews |

Of the seven nights, four are spent at your base with the one night in a castle, one in a hotel and one night in simple accommodation with shared bathroom facilities. The horses are beautifully looked after, willing and steady to ride. There is plenty of assistance at hand to sort out stirrups and look after the horses for you, although you will be asked to assist with grooming your horse while out on the trail.

SAMPLE ITINERARY - QUERCY TRAIL, DORDOGNE

Day 1
Your horse riding holiday starts on Saturday afternoon. Then you will meet the other riders of your group.

Day 2
On Sunday morning we will introduce everybody to his/her horse that you will keep for the rest of the week. After taking care of your horse, we take a trial ride in the area. The afternoon is free.

Day 3
On Monday morning we will leave for a ride to the Dordogne River. We cross the forests and ride through little villages towards Souillac. At about noon we will tie up the horses and have a picnic in the forest. Then we continue our way to the Dordogne River where the horses can refresh their legs in the water. Our hotel is on the side of the river in front of Château de la Treyne. Beauregard is a simple hotel, where we will stay overnight and have breakfast the next morning. Dinner will be taken in Souillac.

Day 4
On Tuesday we will cross the Dordogne River and then go into the valley of the L’Ouysse. This is a river that flows together with the Dordogne under Belcastel. It is a very pretty ride, with long canters along the river. We will have a lunch at Moulin de Caoulet. Then we continue to Rocamadour. Overnight is in Alvignac, in a hotel in the middle of the village, with the horses in the field behind the hotel. In the afternoon you can visit Rocamadour by taxi.

Day 5
The next morning is a rest period for the horses and if you wish you can visit Gouffre de Padirac. In the afternoon we make our way to Hotel de la Terrasse (a small castle) in Meyronne or Domaine de la Vaysse (in Martel), both luxurious and very pretty hotels.

Day 6
On Thursday we return to our starting point.

Day 7
Friday is a half-day ride and in the afternoon you can relax.

Day 8
Departure is on Saturday morning.

Please note: This itinerary is given for your guidance only and it may be altered in accordance with the prevailing conditions by the organising team.
