This is a gourmet trail where the best of French cuisine is discovered at restaurants along the way. Of the 7 nights 4 are spent at your base with the remaining nights in a manor, castle and hotel. The horses are beautifully looked after and steady and reliable to ride. There is plenty of assistance at hand to sort out stirrups and look after the horses for you. You are asked to assist with grooming and saddling your horse while out on the trail.

SAMPLE ITINERARY - LIMOUSIN TRAIL, DORDOGNE

This is a "gourmet Trail" with the emphasis on beautiful places and superb food - not difficult in this region of France.

Day 1
Saturday - Arrival on Saturday afternoon. Unpack and explore your surroundings, dinner with your fellow guests around the dining table.

Day 2
Sunday - Breakfast at 9 o'clock. The first half hour has been set aside for becoming acquainted with "your" horse, for the feeding, grooming, picking hooves etc. Then a 2 ½ hour ride in the surroundings. Lunch at Les Garennes after which you can have a swim in the pool, play tennis or squash or just relax. The luggage you need for the trail will be transported from place to place from tomorrow on.

Day 3
Monday - Departure on the trail. At 9 o'clock we leave Les Garrennes and ride through the fields and forests towards the viscountship of the family "La Tour d'Auvergne" in Turenne. We overnight in a manor house in the town of Turenne. Riding 6 hours.

Day 4
Tuesday - A long days' riding through the fields and beautiful picturesque villages towards the Dordogne River. At Carennac we cross the river to go to our hotel and possibly take a refreshing swim before dinner. Cerennac is a beautiful old village with a 12th century church. A long ride for 7 hours.

Day 5
Wednesday - In the morning the horses have a rest and the riders can visit the Carennac or swim and rest. We'll have an early lunch and after that we ride on, climbing over several mountains to go to Meyronne . This old village is situated on the edge of the Dordogne River. If it is not possible to stay here then we will stay at Martel, which is also a very old town, the hotel is a beautifully renovated old house, with swimming pool and horses in the field next to it. We overnight in a small castle on the banks of this river. Riding 4-5 hours.

Day 6
Thursday - Another long day, 6 hours riding. Again we cross the Dordogne River and then ride to Cuzance. Here we have lunch in a small restaurant in the middle of the village. After lunch we ride through the forest back to Les Garrennes. There we will have a welcome dinner for the riders.

Day 7
Friday - In the morning you have a half day ride 2 -2.5 hrs. to the lovely old village of Nadaillac. Lunch at Les Garennes and the afternoon is at leisure. The farewell dinner will be a typical meal of the Perigord region with the best wines of the region.

Day 8
Saturday - Your riding holiday is concluded as you depart after breakfast.

The weight limit for this ride is 14st 3lbs/200 lb/91 kg, please enquire if you are an experienced rider exceeding this weight.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
All meals, accommodation, wine and coffee with evening meal, riding and guiding.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
Flights to and from Bordeaux or Limoges, transfer from airport, laundry and items of a personal nature.
