HORSE RIDING HOLIDAYS in FRANCE

France is the largest in Western Europe and has a huge diversity of landscapes, cultures and climates just waiting to be discovered on one of Unicorn's many horseback holidays located throughout France.  We have rides in several areas of France:

Horse Riding holidays Languedoc-Roussillon.
This area is quite simply stunning. We are delighted to have some very popular rides in this area. You don't have to go to America for a ranch riding holiday. In the Haute Langeudoc Natural Parc we offer a fantastic ranch with western riding style. There is a mix of trail riding, cattle work and team penning. Lessons in cattle work can be arranged for a small supplement.  You'll need to book early though if you want to experience the cowboy lifestyle French style as this is one of our most popular riding holidays in France. We also offer the Carcassonne Pyrenean Trail , a week long trail in spectacular scenery and can be taken either guided or unguided. The Short Break version of this ride will satisfy both the advanced rider and novices too.

Horse riding in the Dordogne
In the peaceful Dordogne we have several holidays - wonderful trail rides or if you prefer a centre based stay  where you can can ride out each day in the glorious countryside. The Limousin Trail is another great gastronomic experience and ideal for riders wanting a relaxed pace and plenty of comforts.

Horse Riding Holidays Bordeaux
This area has a superb coastline bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Our horseriding holidays in this area of France are quite different. You can choose a fast and exciting Atlantic Coast Trek with beach and forest riding. If you are a wine lover then surely you'll be tempted by the Bordeaux Wine Trail. On this faster than average equestrian vacation you'll tour the famous vineyards, sampling en route.

Unicorn has an excellent riding holiday in the Midi-Pyrenees area. Here Unicorn offers the Armagnac Trail which gives fit riders the chance to ride either accompanied or unaccompanied through beautiful rural  France. You must be prepared for long days in the saddle and with rolling hills you'll have plenty of chances for wonderful long canters.

Horse riding holidays in the Loire.
The most outstanding feature of this beautiful region of France is its huge number of castles. Not surprisingly our ride here is called Castles of the Loire. Riding faster than average you'll take the routes of kings from times past. Actually stay overnight in a castle. This is a journey of discovery not to be missed.

Don't forget we can always arrange extensions to your holiday in France- perhaps a city visit to Paris or Lyon, or a relaxing beach stay. Just ask and we will tailor these to your requirements.

HORSE RIDING HOLIDAYS in ITALY

Where better for Unicorn to locate horse riding holidays than in stylish, cultured European Italy with its wonderful sunny climate and good-humoured volatility! Our range of holidays in Italy combine the warm sun with great local food & wine, culture, style and history with wonderful beaches and mountains. We have rides in the regions of Tuscany and Umbria.

Horse riding holidays TUSCANY
Hilly Tuscany in Central Italy borders the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The area is scenically stunning and not just its countryside, for it's in Tuscany that the beautiful cities of Florence, Siena and Pisa are located. If you are looking for a riding trail you will be spoilt for choice here in Tuscany.

We have several camping trail riding holidays in Tuscany. The Maremma Park Trek  is perfect for a nature loving rider. Camp miles away from civilisation. Ride on  Western saddles with the local cowboys and visit one of the most beautiful beaches in Tuscany. Unicorn has another trail holiday option the Saturnia Trek also in Tuscany.  As before this is a western riding camping trail but this time you can swim in a river of thermal waters springing from waterfalls. Yet another horseback holiday in Tuscany is Etruscan Trekking in beautiful mountains.  We camp on the shore of the volcanic Mezzano Lake, an absolute paradise!

We also offer our Val D'Orcia Trail in the Etruscan region of Italy. As with our previous camping trails, Western saddles are used. Enjoy great scenery riding along mountain trails, fields, Etruscan cavern roads, river beds and lake shores and even swim in the beautiful volcanic Lake Bolsena. Ride up to the ancient volcanic crater of Bolsena in the Vulsini Mountains. Camp on the private shores of Lake Mezzano and enjoy an evening in paradise.

As you would expect Unicorn does not restrict our horseriding holidays in Tuscany to trails. We have a fabulous based ride situated in a peaceful, picturesque valley in the Heart of Tuscany. Here you will receive quality tuition combined with calm riding out in the beautiful countryside, a swimming pool and many other activities that will appeal to all members of the family. Lessons with fully qualified, patient and passionate instructors are available for beginners onwards.
Another based stay in Tuscany is the holiday we call Western Tuition. This ride is aimed at developing and deepening the knowledge of 'natural western', 'collaboration between horse and rider' and 'guidance'. Such a good fun way to get started in western riding as lessons are offered. This horse back holiday has an informal and relaxed atmosphere which makes it highly recommended for those travelling alone.

Horse riding holidays UMBRIA

Our horse riding holiday in Umbria comes highly recommended. This is one of Italy's smallest regions and is less well known and less crowded than it's famous neighbour, Tuscany. You will discover fortresses, castles and monasteries amongst rolling hills, mountains, river valleys, chestnut tree groves and elm tree forests.  The base for our very Italian Umbrian Adventure riding holiday is in an unspoilt and beautiful southern corner of Umbria catering for every level of rider - advanced rider to beginner, adults and families and non-riders. It is possible to ride out in all directions but if you prefer, lessons are available and these are appropriate to your riding level. The speciality here is show jumping. Children may also have tuition. Non riding options include a visit to Assissi or for the connoisseur a trip to a local vineyard.

After your wonderful horse riding holiday in Italy why not opt for an extension - perhaps to immerse yourself in Italy's wonderful culture. Spoil yourself with a city stay in beautiful Florence, historic Rome or romantic Venice. Whatever your requirement, just ask us and we will arange it for you.

 HORSE RIDING HOLIDAYS in  ICELAND

The horses in Iceland make the riding so special. The pure Icelandic horses are small and sturdy but are more than capable of safely carrying their riders, even heavier riders, over the most hostile, rough terrain. They are known for their “tölt”, the unique gait of the Icelandic horse. Unicorn has several excellent horse riding holidays in Iceland to choose from. Accommodation ranges from rustic huts to guesthouses and farms. The trail rides welcome groups, couples, families and single riders and can suit every level of adventurous rider -herding along the other free running horses through the highlands, riding across lava fields and rivers. Thrilling! You change to a fresh horse at least once a day. Different routes explore the coastthe lands of the legendary trolls and elves, and historic upland trade routes through glacial terrain and extinct volcanoes.  The better tracks allow memorable, fast rides in the soft tölt for which the Icelandic horses are renowned.

Add-ons
Unicorn is always delighted to arrange extensions to your horse riding holiday in Iceland and we suggest whale watching tours and trips out onto the ice-fields, bird watching or a few days to explore Reykjavik. Iceland is a beautiful location to go white water rafting. Give us a call to arrange any of these.

In  Crete we offer the excellent  Lasiithi Trail. Ride, guided or unguided for those with more experience, from coast to coast over mountains.  Instruction for the less experienced is available and in the hotter time of the year, shorter hours in the saddle on the sun, sea and riding program allows time for relaxing on the beach.

HORSE RIDING HOLIDAYS IN NORTH AMERICA

Northern America is the the most fantastic location for a horse riding holiday! Unicorn has a huge range of trips for you to choose from in both the USA and Canada.

The USA must be one of the most famous places in the world to go on a riding holiday mainly because of the cowboy culture and ranch holidays in the United States. We offer a large selection of ranch holidays  suitable for beginners onwards and all offer really good, faster riding for experienced riders, unlike many ranch holidays on offer from other suppliers. But to limit horse riding holidays in the USA to ranch holidays would be only part of the picture, so we offer three exciting point to point horse riding holidays in the spectacular South West. Covering Arizona and Utah, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Navajo Indian culture and much more, these horse riding holidays offer an insight onto a spectacular part of the USA best explored on horseback.

As most riders already know so much about the United States of America, what more can Unicorn Trails do to tempt you to choose a horse riding holiday here? Think Grand Canyon, Old Faithful, Rocky Mountains and miles of wilderness. The diversity of geography, flora, fauna and climate is huge. Many people opt for ranch holidays in USA but we also include some fabulous riding trails in our US range.

We have equine holidays in the following states. Click on the link below to jump directly to a chosen state:
      Horse Riding Holidays Colorado
      Horse Riding Holidays Montana
      Horse Riding Holidays Arizona
      Horse Riding Holidays Wyoming
      Horse Riding Holidays Utah

Horse riding holidays Wyoming:
Wyoming is the 'Cowboy State'. Ranching is still a key industry here, and one of the world’s largest rodeos – Cheyenne Frontier Days, is held every July.  The guest dude ranches are ever popular and Unicorn's rides here are both ranch holidays.

Set in the middle of the Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming is the wonderful Moose Ranch. If you are looking for a wonderful ranch experience in a remote setting surrounded by nature and wildlife with some cattle work then look no further. There are 18 very solid spacious log cabins with views and verandahs. As so often on USA ranch holidays there are many non-riding activities and entertainments to suit everyone such as heated swimming pool, hot tub, guided and unguided fly fishing and lots of evening fun with singing around the campfire, square dancing and cookouts. In addition to the extensive horse riding program there is a fully supervised children's programme from infant onwards. Pack trips are also available into the surrounding wilderness areas. The welcome is genuine and the nature pristine. Almost everyone returns to visit here again.

Another great horse riding holiday in Wyoming is at the 1,300 acre  Bitteroot Ranch. This is both a guest dude ranch and also a working cattle ranch. The riding here is some of the best and most diverse trail riding in North America. It is located in a remote valley bordering the Shoshone National Forest. Fifty miles of unspoiled mountain  wilderness separate the ranch from Yellowstone National Park. For a small additional fee you can also take a 1-3 day pack trip into the Wilderness Area. For faster paced riding there is easy access to the high plains around the Wind River Indian Reservation. Your safety and enjoyment is paramount at this ranch and it has a broad pool of horses for all skill and confidence levels. You always ride in small groups with people of similar riding ability. During your stay you will have frequent opportunities to help drive cattle, which graze in the adjacent national forest during the summer. Many of the horses enjoy cutting and driving cows and you will appreciate getting the feel of this traditional western way of life. This is a superb horseback vacaton in Wyoming.

Horse riding holidays Utah:
You'll be surprised by the diversity in Utah - national parks, ski resorts, Lake Powell, Salt Lake City to name a few. Our ride here is an adventurous camping trail that actually takes you through northern Arizona and southern Utah As suggested by the ride's name Utah, Three Park Spectacular, the trek goes through three of the Southwest's most amazing and truly stunning geological formations: the pink and orange hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, the red and buff labyrinth of Zion Canyon, and the multicoloured depths of the incredible Grand Canyon. The trail starts in the Pariah River Canyon, part of the nation's new Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument. This ride treks through remote, sparsely populated country so riders will encounter few, if any, other people during the course of the trip.

Horse riding holidays Montana:
We have a family run ranch holiday in Montana, Bridger Ranch. Your hosts have years of experience looking after guests. The ranch has been handed down through the family and the hosts are directly descended from the  original homesteaders who actually carved this ranch out of the wilderness. They have inherited their love and knowledge of the surroundings and local environment and they impart this to the guests with lots of narrative tales and historical explanations. We know that all cowboys like their food and the meals here are fantasic, taken around the kitchen table. Most horses on the ranch are bred and trained with gentling methods. If guests are interested natural horsemanship clinics are available. Cattle wok is undertaken for all the neighbours, so there is 22 square miles of territory to cover. On this ranch riding holiday in Montana you will be welcomed along with many others who have discovered this haven and return year after year to enjoy the riding, peace and hospitality.

We offer a another dude ranch holiday in Montana, Sunrise Ranch. There are 120 Appaloosa/quarter horses available and different riding groups for every level of rider - beginners, intermediate and advanced.  The location is stunning. The ranch is 7000 feet above sea level and is extemely remote, being surrounded by 2 million acres of wilderness. Old Faithful and Yellowstone National Park are only 1.5 hours drive away.  The ranch is family run and welcomes families. It has a great children's program from infants to ten year olds, and plenty to do for the older children. Horse riding holidays Arizona:
Arizona is desert country, the land of cowboys and indians and miles of open space. Many of John Ford's famous films were shot here. Its climate - dry desert air and guaranteed sunshine - is very attractive to tourists though beware there can be a big difference between the day and night-time temperatures. The 'jewel in the crown' for Arizona is the truly awesome Grand Canyon. This is a sight that everyone must see at least once in their lifetime and Unicorn has a fabulous horseback holiday in the Canyon. However, there is much more to Arizona. In fact it has 27 National Parks including the amazing Monument Valley with its enormous sandstone spire formations and the beautiful Painted Desert. The Sonoran Desert and Sagauro National Park feature typical desert scenery and Unicorn has some of its Arizonan equestrian holidays based here.

Here's a flavour of our horse riding holidays in Arizona.

We have a fabulous riding holiday in the Grand Canyon in its winter pastures. This holiday is a rigorous horse pack trail and is definitely not to be confused with those infamously tedious donkey rides! We explore the Canyon's "Esplanade" these are wide terraces varying in width from 200 yards to a mile wide. In the heyday of the West's ranching era they served as a refuge for cattle from winter storms. Today thanks to the exquisite scenery and solitude, they are an inviting location for winter camping and exploring. The ride takes us to the least frequented drainages and the going can get rough so riders often need to dismount to lead their horses through particularly treacherous areas. Once the trail drops off the north rim, you are unlikely to come across more humas but there's always the odd bighorn sheep or sky mule deer. Even better you may catch sight of a condor soaring overhead. This riding holiday in the Grand Canyon is only for competent riders and you will appreciate the small groups when you ride in this 'mountain upside down' as the Navajo called it. Could there be a better winter sun escape?

Adjacent to the Saguaro National Park we have our riding holiday called Arizona, Tucson Ranch, a family run   ranch set in 5 square miles of desert. This is one of our premier horseback vacations. Guests love getting involved with the weekly cattle work. Experienced riders are catered for with brisk lope rides but less able riders, of all ages, are also welcomed. There are slow rides on the flat and also rides up into the heights of the Saguaro National Park. Families are welcomed here although there is no specific children's riding programme. As expected on a riding holiday in the USA, food is varied and plentiful and the accommodation is of a good spec and spacious with an outdoor pool and indoor hot tub. There are lots of non-riding activities and entertainment such as roping demos, barrel racing and shuffleboard. This is a great choice for a US ranch holiday.

We have another premier ride in the same area, a luxurious cattle and guest dude ranch called Tanque Verde. This 4 star outpost of the Old West is set in 640 acres adjacent to the Saguaro National Park and Corondo National Forest. The scenery is simply spectacular and from here guests can explore the wonderful flora and fauna of the Sonoran desert. This equestrian holiday caters for everyone - riders of all ages and abilities and even non-riders. Beginners to experienced riders will enjoy the riding programme and there is a separate supervisd programme for children making it perfect for a family riding holiday. The ranch is not too far from Tucson and the Grand Canyon can easily be visited. Another good choice for a USA ranch holidays  and especially if you are seeking some warming winter sun.

In addition to our cattle and dude ranches in Arizona we also have a trail ride across the Navajoland of Arizona, with dramatic lanscapes and a unique culture. Today the Navajo is the largest Indian tribe in North America. Across the Navajo Reservation sheep and goats are declining and with them the rural lifestyle that bound the Navajo to their land. The Navajo's connection to their land has become more spiritual as many young Navajo move into towns to seek work. However, the Navajo have not abandoned their culture, they are just adjusting to insure their survival. Our trail here crosses three areas of the Navajo Indian Reservation, each very different.  If you are a rider prepared to camp, without all the creature comforts then this is a perfect horseback holiday for you.  We start in the Canyon de Chelly with its impossibly high walls  in which are dotted Anasazi ruins. Then we continue to ride spending 2 days in Monument Valley famous for its natural arches, mesas and buttes. Contunuing on we ride to the foothills of Navajo Mountain, which is rarely visited. From this camp we can see hundreds of miles across a labyrinth of sandstone canyons draining into the Colorado River. Then finally, a really fabulous treat, we take a boat cruise on Lake Powell, stopping to see Rainbow Bridge revered by the Navajo.

Horse riding holidays Colorado:

Colorado is a year round destination, famous for the high peaks of the Rocky Mountains and great hospitality. This state is home to three spectacular National Parks, native American ruins and ghost towns left over from the gold rush.  We have an excellent dude ranch holiday here in Colorado called appropriately Colorado,Rocky Mountain Ranch and situated right on the continental divide, about 100 miles west of Denver. The ranch is surrounded on three sides by forest or protected land making an area the size of Britain to ride in with not a fence in sight.  Every ride out from this ranch has a view to rave about.  You'll also have lots of fun team penning the cattle each week. This is a family friendly ranch and it has a fully supervised children's programme as well as a particularly good range of non riding activities. However, if families aren't your thing then the last 2 weeks from the end of August are always designated adult only weeks.

Unicorn has horse riding holidays in several areas of Canada.

Canada is a truly huge country - the second largest country in the world by area after Russia and occupies almost 7% of the world's land mass. It is a country known for its mounties, maple syrup and lumberjacks - and has a cowboy culture similar to the USA. It's known for having the longest coastline of any country in the world - over 220,000 km.  The Pacific Ocean laps on its western shores and the Atlantic Ocean its eastern shores. To its north lies Greenland and the polar ice cap. The lower 48 states of the US are to the south. Canada is a perfect blend of the best of Europe mixed with the best of the United States.
The great praries are situated in the centre of this vast country with the Rocky Mountains to the west and the Great Lakes to the south east. Canada has a series of National Parks, and when you consider the size of this gigantic country you'll soon realise that you can ride all day without seeing another soul.

Unicorn has horse riding holidays in Alberta (in the west) and Quebec (in the east) provinces. They cater for all riding abilities from  beginners  to advanced and those who love a challenge and want to ride fast. Non riders and families are welcome on some of the holidays. Single riders will love the various trails we have or perhaps even the Alberta Working Ranch. Most rides have weight limits but our pack trips and ranches have horses for the heavier rider. These ranches also welcome children, making a great family riding holiday. If you prefer to ride western style then you'll find a perfect riding holiday in Canada. Beach riding is always a great favourite with Unicorn clients and in Canada we offer riding vacations with gallops along the coast. Why not come for the glorious Fall or a truly white Christmas?

Quebec
Quebec represents the French culture of Canada, and, located in the south east, is Canada'a largest province. Its historic capital city is also called Quebec, though Montreal has a larger population. Here you'll find the Hudson Bay, over a thousand lakes, the St Lawrence river, craggy mountains, tundra and 3 national parks. In summary - beautiful riding country. This is where French is the first language of choice and the ambiance and cuisine is definitely very French. In the north of the province you may be lucky enough to experience the great caribou migration.

Alberta
Alberta represents the ranch and cowboy culture. Nature lovers will love Alberta's Rocky mountains, lakes, glaciers and forests. It is home to several national parks including Banff and Jasper.  Situated in the south/mid-west,  it is the most westerly of the 'prairie and plains' provinces, yet also home to the magnificent Rocky Mountains. Banff is its famous jewel, both the picturesque town and the national park. Set in the Rockies it is a major ski resort but is just as beautiful in both summer and winter, with popular tourist spots such as Sulphur Mountain and Lake Louise. There's lots of wildlfe in Alberta and you stand a great chance of seeing moose, bear, mountain goats, big-horn sheep etc. Visitors can take the Icefields Parkway and walk out on to the frozen icefields.

Here is an overview of the horseback vacations in Canada that Unicorn is delighted to offer:

Quebec Trail Autumn Highlights
This Canadian ride is designed to specifically take advantage of the magnificent autumn colours of the region. Clothed in blazing colour, nature heralds the Indian summer. A magical time of golden warmth to be savoured before the first snowfall. Similar to the trails below, you'll ride out in wonderful scenery but with the added bonus of being surrounded by the glorious palettes of crimson and gold. There's plenty of opportunity for long canters and you may even find a spot to swim if its warm enough. How about spending one night in a teepee.

Quebec Trail Snowy Landscapes
Come on the Snowy Landscapes Trail riding holiday for a winter wonderland experience. To start, you'll stay in a warm and cosy inn situated on the summit of a peak in the Appalachian Mountains. Ride out on forest trails or deep powder snow to trappers' cabins, villages, mills and farms. Transfer to a traditional Quebec-style cedar shingled farmhouse and barn and under the starry winter night sky enjoy a magic excursion in a sleigh drawn by two superb Clydesdale draft horses. There are many surprises on this riding holiday - a trapper will teach you dog sledding, you'll have lunch in a teepee, you can try your hand at snow-mobiling or snow-shoeing. Fancy a thrilling toboggan descent?  For the less energetic just relax in front of the crackling wood stove, chill out in the steaming jacuzzi or take a hot stone massage. Another bonus - the food on the riding holiday is fantastic. This holiday makes a wonderful Christmas escape.

Quebec Inn to Inn
This holiday immerses you into the Quebec culture and your hosts take pride in showing you their spectacular piece of the country. You have the opportunity to ride through beautiful, wild scenery with some good gallops and trotting on fit horses. Ride through maple and pine forests along old logging roads, past rushing rivers and sparkling lakes. The route is particularly spectacular in the colourful autumn 'foliage season'. Swim in waterfalls and ride along the beach. You can gallop by the beach  no matter what the weather. The overnight accommodations serve top quality cuisine, are extremely attractive and are built and decorated in the style of old France.

Quebec Gastronomy Week
Canada is a delightful country full of friendly people all out to help you get the most from your horse riding holiday. This centre-based stay is an ideal alternative to a longer trail ride through the area such as the Snowy Landscapes or the Autumn Highlights, although it may be possible to arrange a mini-trail (just out for one or two nights) for small groups of up to 3 people. Perhaps you'd like to camp in a teepee. Accommodation is in comfortable lodgings, the country inn /ranch has single and double rooms, most en suite. The Inn also has a hot tub/jacuzzi and can arrange massages. The food is a real feature of this ride provided by a French trained chef. Most of the flavoursome produce is home or locally grown. The Inn's restaurant is very popular with locals. Horses are Quarter horses, Appaloosas or Canadians, all good natured and gentle and perfectly adapted to the terrain. Some are more spirited and there are some real schoolmasters. The riding is adapted to the ability of the riders and can vary from a gentle walk to riding at all paces. The terrain is varied with gently rolling hills and soft tracks, woods and view points. English or Western tack is available. Canada is a family-orientated country and families are welcome at the ranch. Besides riding, or perhaps for non-riders, there is a lot to see and do in the Quebec area and we recommend hiring a  car to get the most from your holiday. We are happy to arrange this for you, just ask at the time of booking.

Alberta Working Ranch
The USA does not hold the monopoly on ranch holidays. This is an excellent Canadian ranch riding holiday. Get away from it all and gain an inside view of this authentic working family ranch.  Set at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, this small working cattle ranch is the real thing. On 2 week programmes guests will experience cattle work and learn the basic techniques of working cattle and ranch roping. Riding experience would be beneficial for this but is by no means essential as on this horse riding holiday beginners can also participate. The first cattle drive takes place in the first part of June and allows you to take the yearlings into the Forest Reserve. Usually they are gathered and driven three miles to the neighbour's corrals on one day. They will stay there overnight, and the next morning we combine the herd and move them between 15 and 20 miles into the Forest Reserve. A second cattle drive takes place in mid-July (weather permitting). This involves taking up the heifers that have been with the bulls for six weeks. This drive is similar to the first as they will go into the same pasture. The third drive is the Fall Roundup and takes place about the middle of October as the cattle need to be out of the Forest Reserve by the 15th of the month. Cattle drives are extremely popular and you will need to book early to reseve your place. Branding Week offers a traditional branding experience that even today, echoes the practices of the past. Help the crew gather, sort and brand. You're welcome to observe or pitch in and learn the basics. Why not combine your stay at the ranch with a two day stay in the city for the world famous Calgary Stampede in July? Please contact Unicorn Trails for details.

Alberta - Calgary Ranch
Unicorn offers another ranch holiday in Canada. Situated near the historic Fort Assiniboine, between the beautiful Sand Hills Wildland Park and the meandering Athabasca River, we find a secluded ranch nestled in an area surrounded by forests. Experience the cowboy life on this ranch. Guests have the opportunity to participate in cattle work on the ranch and experience trail riding through a portion of Alberta's historic Klondike Trail with abundant wildlife - favourites are the bald eagle, beavers and moose. Even guests with limited riding experience will be comfortable in the saddle and penning cattle after a few hours of gentle tuition. This horse riding holiday in Canada is an ideal family destination. Many extras can be arranged - e.g. canoe trips, gold panning, visits to local rodeo shows, bird watching, wagon rides, viewing the Northern Lights, wilderness survival and nature tours.

Canada Wilderness Pack Trips
Now for some special Canadian horse riding holidays that would suit advanced and adventurous riders with a pioneering spirit . Participate in an Alberta Pack Horse Trip, camping out in either the Canadian Rocky Mountains, or for those looking for a faster riding holiday, on the Great Plains. You'll join with a small band of like minded adventurers and athletic, sure-footed horses to explore some of the most wild and beautiful places in Alberta. Your gear is carried on pack horses although the pack string may take a different route to enable you to ride some more difficult terrain or perhaps faster at times. You camp in unspoilt locations surrounded by vast nature as the first explorers of this country did, enjoying food made on camp fires and working together in an awe-inspiring but demanding land. Multi-day pack trips are the answer for those who want to get into  the real back-country, relax and recharge their batteries in the splendour of nature, learn more about riding, and enjoy the companionship of horses.
7 Day Pack Trips - Rocky Mountains -These will typically cover 100-120 km of both foothill and mountain topography in Kananaskis Country.  7 Day Great Plains Trail - This trail covers 190 km, from the Sweetgrass Hills on the Montana border to the Cypress Hills in Saskatchewan. This is excellent riding country, with unlimited opportunity for experience riders to move at a faster pace. This trail is aimed at riders who can confidently control a horse at a canter in open landscapes. 10 Day Pack Trips - Rocky Mountains - These are designed for keen riders who are up to the challenge of covering between 170 and 200 km of rugged mountain trails. Over the duration of the trek the basics of horse packing, wilderness horsemanship, low impact horse camping and a myriad of other skills are aquired.

Extensions to our horse riding holidays in North America
