Russia is by far the largest country in the world, with a landmass consisting of vast plains in the west and north, and a discontinuous belt of mountains and plateaus in the south and east. This is a land of snow and deadly winters, but also of rivers that meander across meadows and a midsummer sun that never sets. Its people are generous and hospitable.
Our ride here is a trail called Snow Adventure. You will start in Moscow which is a fascinating city. There is the unbelievable architecture around Red Square and the mind boggling treasure within the walls of the Kremlin. Why not extend your stay before your ride and catch a ballet at the Bolshoi theatre or a fun trip to the Moscow State Circus.
You take the overnight train 600kilometres north of Moscow. This is the Vologda Lake region. It's here that your ride begins. It is the land of monasteries and churches, magical white nights, rivers and blue lakes. The adventure also caters for non riders and they will travel with you but in Russian troikas.
You will finally arrive in St Petersburg (previously Leningrad). Called the Venice of the North, this is a stunning city with palace-lined waterways. It managed to escape the architectural incursions of Stalinism and its grandiose relics of tsarist days are largely intact. Must-do's are visits to the Winter Palace and the Heritage Museum. There is so much to see that you may like to extend your stay for a few nights here. We can easily arrange this for you.
