SAMPLE ITINERARY - TRANSYLVANIA TRAIL
Sample Itinerary for Camping Trail (Sample Guesthouse Trail below)
Day 1 Arrival at the airport of Sibiu and transfer (1½ hour) to the inn in Halmeag. Aperitif and a delicious 4 course dinner under the vine-leaves or at the open fire along to the weather and season. Staying overnight in the inn.
Day 2 After breakfast you go by horse drawn cart to the hills outside the village to catch your favourite horse out of the herd of about 70 Lipizzan horses and foals. Back in the inn you saddle your horse and make a fine day-tour to make your acquaintance with the beautiful Transylvanian landscape and to try out your horse and saddle. Lunch, aperitif and a palatable 4 course dinner. Staying overnight in the inn.
Day 3 We go in a north direction to Ticus. Here we will have a typical Dutch lunch “poffertjes”. Then we go to a Stână which is a summer-residence of the shepherds. Here we set up camp and see the flock of sheep come home to be milked, perhaps we will also see the making of the typical fresh sheepcheese “Telemia” and we will probably have lamb for dinner at the campfire.
Day 4 Today we are going to Viscri which is in north direction. This village is taken under the hood of Prince Charles and several eco-initiatives like a water purifying system and knitting socks by the village-women for better education have been or are being developed. We stay here at the vicar’s place where you have a real bed and a hot shower and enjoy a 3-course Hungarian dinner as well the home-made Pálinka.
Day 5 The day starts with a visit to the famous old fortified church of Viscri and the village. Then we go west to make camp-site on a hill with a very beautiful panorama on the Carpathian mountains and the hills around you. There will be a 2-course dinner at the campfire.
Day 6 After breakfast and giving a hand with clearing the camp-site we saddle the horses and head for direction south-east along again a scenic route. We have lunch in a village which was a set for western movies. Then we head in south direction to the villages Dacia and Daisoara. Depending on the number of the participants we either camp or stay with a Romanian family.
Day 7 Already it is the last day of the trail. Either we clear camp or say goodbye to our hosts and head through forests, over hills and along streams a last adventurous trip to go to the Halmeag’inn. Here you find your nice soft bed, a hot shower and a delicious 4-course goodbye-dinner.
Day 8 Breakfast, packing and transfer to Sibiu airport and say Goodbye to all horses, dogs and people
Sample Itinerary for Guest House Trail:
Day 1 Arrival at the airport of Sibiu and transfer (1 ½ hour) to the inn in Halmeag. Aperitif and a delicious 4 course dinner under the vine-leaves or at the open fire along to the weather and season. Staying overnight in the inn. Single rooms available

Day 3 Today we are southward bound. We cross the river Olt and go along the Sinca stream. The terrain is rather flat with a view on the Carpathian mountains and is suited for all kinds of paces. We have lunch with your 'at breakfast' packed lunchbox in the middle of the fields, or if possible at one of the bars/shops. Then we go to visit one of the oldest watermills and have a pension overnight with a tasty Romanian dinner in the neighbourhood. Simple cosy housing; no single rooms available.
Day 4 We go further south to the feet of the Carpathian mountains and stay at a new built pension. The people here are very welcoming and we have a gratar, which is the Romanian variety of a barbecue. Fine rooms with private bathroom.
If we are in time, we visit the State Lippizanstud of Sambata de Jos and go over there by car. If it is too late, we do it the next (early) morning.
Day 5 Either the visit to State-stud, or just leaving right-away. Rather a long ride today. We go to a pension, newly built with a Jacuzzi and a nice pool. Here you can see the life of well-to-do Romanian-youngsters. Nice surroundings, nice rooms, but certainly not the peasant-nice welcoming idea of Romania. Anyhow pleasant but in a different way. Good food, single rooms available
Day 6 We leave in north-west direction. Have a picknic-lunch which you collected at the breakfast-table, in the fields or in Cobor at Uncle Pista’s bar/shop. Then we go to Lovnic to spent the night in a nice pension.
Day 7 Already the last day of the trail. We say our hosts goodbye and head through forest, streams at a last adventurous trip to go to the Halmeag’inn. Here you find your nice soft bed, a hot shower and a delicious 4-course goodbye-dinner.
