The en route accommodation varies from a comfortable guesthouse to more basic guest houses and camping. There is a special 2 week ride in celebration of the hosts 5th anniversary in Romania. The dates are above, and can be taken as a 2 week period, or as separate weeks.
SAMPLE ITINERARY - TRANSYLVANIA CAMPING TRAIL
Day 1
Arrival at the airport and transfer to the inn. Making your acquaintance with the horses sees the start of your
horse riding holiday. Then you can see the herds of cattle, goats and buffaloes come home after grazing in the fields around the village. Have a drink and snacks under the vines or at the open logfire and try our fine cuisine.
Day 2
Choose your horse and ride to the village of Sona. Check you get on with your horse and that the saddle is comfortable. We may visit the old forester Traian if he is not out in the woods and have lunch at the Asobar. We ride along the Sapte Mamelle and back down on the lower parts along the banks of the river Olt. Trots, a lot of canters and gallops to try out what everybody likes and is comfortable with. Back in the inn you have a nice hot shower - one of the last for the coming days - aperitif and snacks and a good 4-5 course dinner.
Day 3
After a good English breakfast and having prepared our lunchboxes we now leave the inn and head for the village of Dacia. The local car of Romania is named after that but in the village you hardly ever see one. The local traffic is with carts and horses. The route today is rather long and goes through rough terrain with lots of canters. We have lunch in the open fields. We stay with Dorina (with one tooth and her simple father) in a former Saxon house with a yard and here we also stable the horses. In the evening Bertina and Latsi come over with your luggage and prepare a 3 course dinner which you eat out in the yard at long tables or in the kitchen near the stove if the weather is a bit chilly or wet. In the morning you do your washing up with fresh well water.
Day 4
After again a good breakfast and preparing our picnic lunches we prepare the horses for the ride to Valeni. We have lunch on our way. We camp out in dome tents and with the soft sound of cow- and sheep bells, a view on the whole of the Milky Way and a huge campfire. Again Latsi and Bertina come with the luggage and oats for the horses and prepare dinner.
Day 5
We are now heading for Selistat. This is a ride with a lot of canters and gallops. In Selistat we find another Saxon house which is owned by the stud. The house has two dormitories and two fully equipped bathrooms. Further a nice terrace, a bar with an open log fire annex dining room, horses in the stables and in the yard. Sometimes the local bar offers disco nights.
Day 6
After a relaxed start we saddle for Cincu, where the Lipizzaner stud is situated. This trail is somewhat shorter. After arrival you can do you some sightseeing on the stud and the village. Further relax on the hill with beautiful views on the village and the Carpathian Mountains while sitting at the huge campfire being served cold beers, nice wines and again a fine dinner. Tonight is dormitory accommodation and simple washing facilities.
Day 7
A good breakfast is needed for this last day as we ride steadily the 50 kms back to the inn in Halmeag as destiny for the day. Lots of canters and gallops. We have a picnic lunch in the open field. Arriving in Halmeag we enjoy the luxury of hot showers, own bath gowns and hairdryer. Maybe then you realize that you didn't need that all to have a great time. We have a "Masa Festive" (a feast dinner party) and after that a good night's sleep.
Day 8
Again you need a good breakfast to face the voyage back to the 21st century. Time to say goodbye and transfer to the airport.
