Sharley was great, was a shame she was injured and unable to accompany us on the ride.

Helen and Trevor our two tour guides (plus Patrick who joined us for 2 days later on) were brilliant. All were very good horsemen with a fantastic knowledge of the local area. They were great fun to ride with and really made an already brilliant ride into a phenomenally good one.

My horse Jack Flash was really good, they were all very tough animals who had been brought up to a level of fitness appropriate for the length of the ride. I personally got to ride 4 different horses over the course of the ride, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed riding, especially Ronnie (Helen's horse for the ride).

The details given for the ride on the Unicorn Trails website matched the ride itself exactly. Naturally there were a few alterations along the way due to unforeseen circumstances, but warning of these was given beforehand as naturally not everything can always go as planned.

Not really. Everything was as explained. We did have trouble loading the guides' two horses onto the horsebox, one of which refused to load altogether but that was on the final day and could happen to anyone. It certainly didn't ruin the final day's riding, though it was a great shame that Helen couldn't accompany us for the final ride along the black sandy beach on the West Coast.
More 'Bush-Wacking'! It's great fun and if you don't mind a few scratches on your arms you will love smashing through the undergrowth on horseback, where it's just you and your horse against nature.

If you have very little riding experience then this ride would be very difficult for you as there are a lot of hills to climb, but so long as you have a decent amount of experience you won't find it too tough. However, even for an experienced rider it can take it out of you, especially if you have any injuries which can affect your riding. Not to put you off though, I am a very experienced rider yet I have a bad back , bad ankle and have had tendonitus in both my knees and I was alright (was in a fair amount of pain though). You just need to take care of yourself as well as your horse. Nothing can really prepare your body for riding for 6hrs a day except actually doing it!

Would definately recommend Unicorn Trails to anyone. Their staff are fantastic to deal with and truly care about the riders themselves. I dealt with a lady called Leah Collingwood who was brilliant, she was really concerned about me due to the Icelandic volcano erupting in April 2010, as I wouldn't have been able to get home as a result. Luckily I was staying in New Zealand until July but my mum certainly appreciated the phone call Leah gave her at work to check whether or not that I was OK.

THANK YOU!!! And to any prospective Horse Trekkers out there: 'DO THIS RIDE!!' It is the best riding experience you will ever have (and I've ridden racehorses)!! You will not regret it and the people you meet along the way make it so worthwhile.
