Mongolia was previously a satellite state of Russia called Outer Mongolia. With the fall of communism in Russia change came to Mongolia too. The country has a parliamentary democracy with a president who is elected for a 4 year term. This stable form of government has been in place since 1992. At present the country is in a change over period from communism to a free market economy. For partly this reason, tourism has been developing at a pace over the last few years.

Many Mongolians still live the nomadic life of the traditional herdsman. Mongolia is well known for its nature, wildlife and the generousity of the people. A horse riding holiday here is a true experience and chance to explore the vast unspoilt wilderness area occupied by the last truly nomadic people.

Mongolia has a diverse landscape. The country is very mountainous with the highest peaks in the west. There are quite literally hundreds of lakes, some very large. You'll also find hot springs to bathe in. Then of course we cannot forget the Gobi Desert where you may find wild camels, Gobi bears, snow leopards and Prewalsky horses. These horses are the only truly wild breed of horse. You'll be able to meet the Prewalsky horses on our  Mongolian Explorer ride.

The capital of Mongolia is Ulaanbaatar. This is an interesting city and we can happily arrange an extra few days here as an add-on to your riding holiday. Why not visit the museum to see the splendic dinasaur discoveries.
