The Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan offers many possibilities for excellent horse riding holidays. The culture is very much focused on horse and horsemanship, thus riding holidays come naturally to the fore as an excellent way to explore the high mountains of this land locked country. Kyrgyzstan's neighbours are Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Along with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan these 6 countries make up the Turkic States.  There are two other countries boardering Kyrgyzstan which are Tajikistan and China. The capital city is Bishkek.

The climate is extremely diverse and dependent on location and season. For example temperatures range from -6°C in January to 24°C in July in the lowlands. In the highlands, the temperature can fall as low as -30° in January to 12°C in July. Kyrgyzstan has little rainfall although there can be heavy snowfalls during winter.

The culture of Kyrgyzstan has been largely influenced by their nomadic nature of its people who transport their yurts from place to place. The sides of these tents are highly decorated with multi-coloured fabrics. You will get to experience these yurts on our Great Silk Road ride.

Horses are a very important part of the Kyrgyz culture and tradition. Originally from Siberia, the nomadic Kyrgyz tribe were essentially dependent on cattle.

The Great Silk Road is the ride that Unicorn Trails offer in Kyrgyzstan. Accessing the high mountain pastures used in the summer involves riding between snow covered peaks in the steps of the herders. Camping at night can be cool even in the height of the summer, the only time possible to undertake a horseback trek in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan.
