THREE TICO TRAILS - COSTA RICA

This is an opportunity to visit three distinctly different regions of Costa Rica. Over the course of the week ride through the Rincon de la Vieja National Park and the ranching region of Guanacaste, along the beaches and in the jungles of the Nicoya Peninsula, and through coffee plantations high above the Central Valley. The terrain is diverse and each region contains an abundant variety of colourful birds, plants and animals.

SAMPLE ITINERARY - THREE TICO TRAILS

Day 1
Welcome to Costa Rica! You will be met upon arrival at the Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, and transferred to Rincon de la Vieja and the Hacienda Guachipilin. During the welcome dinner you will get to know your fellow riders while your professional equestrian guide (groups of 4 riders or more) or English speaking local guide (groups of 2-3 riders) briefs everyone about the rides and terrain you will be experiencing on this horse riding holiday. Overnight Hacienda Guachipilin.

Day 2

Los Chorreas - the Canyon. Your first ride takes you through woods and plains to a beautiful river canyon. Bring a bathing suit and enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water at the base of the waterfalls. The return ride to the lodge leads through more forest and across several rivers. Marvel at the first views of the multiple plants, birds and animals of the thick Costa Rican vegetation. Overnight again at Hacienda Guachipilin.

Day 3
Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Ride into Rincon de la Vieja National Park which contains many geothermal features. Take a short walk to view steam vents and boiling mud pots. Riding a little further brings you to the warm sulphur springs and a chance to bathe in the natural hot water pools. After a picnic lunch, visit the old Casona, a 100-year-old hacienda that is now part of the park's ranger station. Ride on to Rio Negro across open plains that offer many chances to canter. Return to the lodge via the "enchanted forest", a shaded area of thick Strangler Figs and huge old Guanacaste trees bent and twisted into weird shapes and angles.

Day 4
Drive a short distance to Liberia and La Chacara Farm were you explore the scenic trails. Then transfer the short distance to beautiful Playa Panama. Overnight at beachside boutique hotel, Casa Conde del Mar. Dinner is on your own tonight.

Day 5
Congo Trail Canopy and Matapalo Beach Ride
Starting at the equestrian center of Lomas del Mar, riding to the incredible Congo Trail Canopy, leave the horses then go high into the jungle canopy on a zip line. Then  meander down the Costa Rican country road to gallop on the wide stretch of beach, at Matapalo beach.. Here you can even swim with the horses.. Late afternoon, your driver will take you to the town of Coco Beach with time explore and shop in several small handicraft stores Dinner on your own at one of the many restaurants in Coco. Overnight Casa Conde del Mar

Day 6
Bahia Pez Vela Lunch Ride —
Ride over the mountains to Bahia Pez Vela and eat lunch at! Picante! tropical dining by the sea, and ride back through Playa Ocotal and a forest trail to return to the stables of Lomas del Mar. Breath-taking views of the coastline – keep your eyes open for whales! Overnight Casa Conde del Mar

Day 7
Leona del Mar with spa treatment
To finish up this fantastic riding holiday will be a ride through the ecological resort community of Lomas del Mar. Ride to the top of the mountain. Leave you horse and relax in the incredible infinity pool, have lunch and  enjoy a massage at the Serendipity Spa .. Overnight Casa Conde del Mar

Day 8
After breakfast transfer to the San Jose International Airport for your departure from Costa Rica. The riding time varies but is normally 3-5 hours per day on this riding holiday. *THE ITINERARY IS FLEXIBLE. CHANGES MAY OCCUR DUE TO WEATHER OR OTHER UNEXPECTED EVENTS* .

The weight limit for this ride is 15st /210 lb/95 kg, please enquire if you are an experienced rider exceeding this weight.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
All meals except three dinners, all accommodations, horses, tack, guide, round-trip transfer from the Guanacaste airport to the San Jose airport, entrance fees to national parks, taxes and all transportation during the ride.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
International flights to Costa Rica, dinners on Days 4, 5 & 6, alcoholic beverages and gratuities. A single supplement of £248 applies if booking alone, £229 for June, July and August dates.
All travelers are required to pay an airport tax prior to departure from Costa Rica (approximately $26.00 US).
