The first hotel we stayed at in Avis was poor, the breakfast (if you can call it that) was coffee, orange juice and a bread roll with soft cheese spread or jam - fine for me because I don't eat a lot, but my partner has hollow legs and found that he was hungry shortly afterwards, however it was clean but I think it gives a bad first impression of what you might get at the next accommodation, which thankfully was worlds apart!!

There are lots of very fast gallops over varying terrain for long stretches which requires you to be fairly fit and a capable rider, that being said the horses are fanastic and well behaved and know exactly where they are going

Our main concern initially with a riding holiday abroad was the condition of the horses and whether the ride would be accurately described and value for money, I am glad to say we were not disappointed either with last years trail ride or this one. Our horses were extremely well cared for and they are obviously happy doing their job. Miguel is a fantastic host, very friendly, approachable and speaks many languages fluently, he makes a point of spending time with everyone on the ride. This year he has a new assistant called Ricardo who prepares the bbq picnics, he is very good with the horses and is again very friendly, approachable and works hard shifting all our luggage around!

We would love to return to Portugal and go with Miguel again when they devise new trail routes. Next year we are considering a ride in Spain (Alpujarra Mountains), no more package holidays for us - its trail rides from now on!! Thank you for a wonderful holiday x
