This is a point to point camping horse riding holiday in the Etruscan region of Italy. Western saddles are utilized on this trail. You will ride along mountain trails, field roads, Etruscan cavern roads, river beds and lake shores, all whilst enjoying the  scenery. You will visit the medieval village of Proceno and ride across the Urla Valley before enjoying a refreshing swim in the beautiful volcanic Lake Bolsena. Ride up to the Vulsini Mountains and the ancient volcanic crater of Bolsena, with its castle which towers over the city. The proceed along lake shores to the town of Marta with its streets paved with ancient Roman rock. Camp on the private shores of Lake Mezzano and enjoy an evening in paradise. For a nature loving rider this horse riding holiday is the most beautiful and intense way to discover nature and has no particularly difficult terrain or riding challenges.

SAMPLE ITINERARY - TWO LAKES TREK

Day 1
Arrive and transfer to accommodation. In the evening meet with the guide and the other guests to chat and get to know each other.

Day 2
The entire day is spent on horseback, getting to know your horse and ensuring that horse and rider are completely compatable.  Lunch is a picnic.

Day 3
We head to Montevitozzo and start our descent towards Stridolone Stream, which we will cross many times before entering the region of Lazio. We come to the medieval village of Proceno and continue on towards the camp situated not far from the town of Acquapendente.

Day 4
We ride out towards Grotte di Castro and cross the Urla Valley, reaching Lake Bolsena and Borghetto Place. This stage is actually not very long and will allow us to arrive at the lake in the early afternoon and take a refreshing swim in this beautiful volcanic lake.

Day 5
We leave our campsite and ride up to the Vulsini Mountains which form the border of the ancient volcanic crater of Bolsena. We then come to the city of Bolsena, with its castle which towers over the city. We will stop for our picnic near the Turona Stream, and afterwards continue towards Montefiascone. We will then ride along the lake shores and come to the equestrian centre owned by a friend of ours, Luigi, who will be our host for the evening.

Day 6
We ride along the lake and then ride into the town of Marta, with its streets paved with ancient Roman rock. Then we will go towards the town of Valentano and ride through its hills, which form the northern border of our second lake destination, Mezzano. We will make our camp on its private shores and enjoy an evening in paradise...

Day 7
From Mezzano lake, along field tracks we reach first San Quirico, then Vitozza, a village rich in medieval treasures. Its original habitations were made up of numerous caverns that served as houses until the end of the eighteenth century. From there we descend to the springs of the Lente river, then continuing towards Pratolungo, Castell'Ottieri and Montevitozzo before returning to our starting location.

Day 8
Depart.

The weight limit for this ride is 16 st/220 lb/100 kg, please enquire if you are an experienced rider exceeding this weight.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
Full board (breakfast and 2 three course meals including wine), accommodation, riding, horses and tack, luggage transfer and camping equipment.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
Transfers from/to station/airport (payable on site), items of a personal nature and gratuities. Optional extras include a full service bar and availability of rain gear for rent.
