WICKLOW TRAIL - IRELAND

The Wicklow Trail follows a large circuit of the extremely scenic Wicklow Mountains, stopping at fun friendly accommodations overnight. The Wicklow Mountains are scenic, yet only a short drive away from Dublin. The horses are well schooled and perfectly adapted to the trail. Lunches are picnics en route. Accommodation is in friendly B&B’s or home stays with typical Irish hospitality. Short breaks are also available. The best times to ride this trail is May to October.

SAMPLE ITINERARY - WICKLOW TRAIL

Day 1

Sunday - Arrive in Dublin and make your way to your overnight accommodation an easy taxi ride from the airport. Overnight in Olthove House, Newtown.

Day 2
Monday - After selecting your equine partner at the riding centre, we will set you on your way for a memorable journey, a horse riding holiday through the magnificent scenery of the Garden of Ireland. The afternoon takes you over the Butter Mountain with panoramic views of Dublin City and surrounding countryside, finishing up at Cloghleagh on the banks of the River Liffey. Tonight we stay at The Heathers, Poulaphucca, Ballymore Eustace.

Day 3
Tuesday - Today we ride from Ballinageee Bridge along the Kings River over Knocknadroose Mountain to a well deserved picnic at "Charlie's Ford". The trail over Knocknabooley leading on to Church Mountain descends via the Cuckoo Valley to Intack and finishing in Donard for a welcome drink in a typical Irish Pub. Accommodation the same as the previous night.

Day 4
Wednesday - Today is Donard via Knickeens Ford over Table Mountain and down to Glenmalure. This trail takes you to dizzy heights where spectacular scenery unfolds all around you. Overnight Glenmalure Lodge, Glenmalure.

Day 5
Thursday - Now we are on the east side of the Wicklow Mountains and we ride through the Glenmalure valley taking in Drumgoff, following the old Military Road over Cullerragh Mountain and finishing in the splendour of Derrybawn Wood overlooking Glendalough Lakes. Overnight Tudor Lodge, Laragh.

Day 6
Friday - After a good night's rest in one of our country houses we set of through forestry's and rugged Mountains leading down to the mysterious Glendalough lakes, and over looking the Monastic valley and pictured above the 7th Century Round Tower. Overnight tonight is at Trooperstown Wood Lodge, Laragh.

Day 7
Saturday - Departure after breakfast.

The weight limit for this ride is 15 st/209 lb/95 kg, please enquire if you are an experienced rider exceeding this weight.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
B&B in twin bedded rooms sharing, B&B, 5 lunches, 3 dinners. Single rooms or double beds on request when available. Luggage is transported for you. All riding activities as described in the itinerary.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
Transport to and from Dublin Airport, drinks, items of a personal nature. Single supplement as above - you can share a room, if there is a sharer available.
