As France has a national structure for teaching and learning riding and horsemanship, the assumption was made that everyone knew how to undertake a trail ride; pack saddle bags, girth the French trekking saddles etc. The unfamiliar kit was not explained to us so a bit more information would have been useful at the start.

Recommend endurance-type riding boots and half chaps as riders need to walk up and down rocky slopes.

This was not a ride for novice riders. The pace was not fast, nor the days very long, but the terrain was extreme in places, both up and down, often heavily wooded or along narrow paths, and it required a confident rider, one able and willing to leave the horse alone to do its job.
