BOHEMIAN WEEK - CZECH REPUBLIC

more photos | enquiry | availability check

A short journey from Prague brings you to this protected area of outstanding natural beauty. This peaceful pocket is complete with rolling meadows, pine forests and hills dotted with picturesque traditional hamlets. Proximity to Prague makes this trip ideal to combine with a short city stay in this fascinating city. The tranquility of the area is complimented by the riding, pure and mixed breed Czech warmbloods will guide you through this varied terrain with care and honesty. During this week you can explore the local area on horseback, taking in the views and meeting its hospitable people. Rich local traditions and natural beauty are all experienced en route. Accommodation is on the family run farm. Your host has a passion for all things four-legged and your stay at the farm will be enriched by the lively menagerie of dogs, cats, sheep and pigs (That is if they can be kept from disappearing off into the forest!) Your host's care also extends to the two legged variety, hearty traditional meals are provided on the farm.

NOTES - BOHEMIAN WEEK

During the week we ride out for beautiful 2 - 3 hour trips through this protected area, the Garden of North Bohemia. The forests, meadows and rolling hills make for a spectacular ride with ever changing vistas. The riding is unlimited, no fencing and few roads mark your wanderings just the quietness of nature. Each day you will set out on a new track, with your four legged friend and an experienced guide. This horse riding holiday is ideal for families, for riders who travel with non-riders or whose partner would like to simply un-wind in the peaceful surroundings of this friendly, family run farm.
The out rides can be substituted for tuition, both general tuition and for a small supplement dressage and show jumping. On special occasions traditional programmes and riding activities such as easter egg hunts on horseback or harvest special drag hunts are organised.

New for 2008! We are now pleased to be able to offer you a 'stationary trail' - riding back to the farmhouse every night but with more hours (3-5) in the saddle than the Bohemian Week. This holiday runs from Sunday to Sunday from January to May and from September to December.

If you visit at the beginning of July (around the 8th) you may be lucky enough to watch the annual medieval parade of the village of Trebusin. It celebrates stories of landlords and freedom of religion. You may see some of your guides taking part in the horse parade, and a story is played out, with tournaments and swordfights. A really memorable part of your holiday!

Route maps for cycling and walking are available to explore the local area as are bikes. There is a small village nearby with a restaurant - a real experience to visit.

The nearby historic town of Litomerice is also a good place for a day trip. One of the oldest and most beautiful Czech towns, established in 10th century at the place of early medieval Slavic fort. You can climb the tower in the main square or stroll along the river front or visit one of the many galleries, churches or museums. After lunch, if you would like, a 5 minute drive will take you over the river into Terezin. Originally built in the late 18th century, Terezin's Small Fortress served as a prison for military and political opponents to the Hapsburg monarchy in the early 19th century. But the most tragic part of Terezin's history came after the Czech lands were occupied by Nazi Germany. Terezin's Small Fortress was converted to a police prison of the Prague Gestapo in June 1940; in November 1941, a ghetto and concentration camp for Jews was established in the Large Fortress and town of Terezin.

Your hostess has a myriad of tame animals, from pot bellied pigs to lambs, dogs, cats and foals which are all equally friendly and curious. When you have had enough of activities, the swimming pool with views down the valley beckons! A real bohemian week.

HOTELS IN PRAGUE

If you would like to combine your trip with a few days in Prague we will be happy to arrange that for you. Arrival or departure transfers can be arranged to or from your hotel in Prague. We have special relationships with the following hotels and would be happy to arrange your stay.

Hotel Kafka *** or Aparthotel Amadeus ***
Both hotels are situated near the city centre in the Zizkov district, just three tram stops from Wenceslaus Square. They are small, basic and friendly hotels with double en-suite bedrooms equipped with towels, satellite TV and a telephone. Breakfast style buffet is included.

Hotel U Prince *****
U Prince is a 24-room hotel in a 14th century building right on the Old Town square. Like Prague itself, everywhere you look is something: a raucous pair of parrots in a carved wooden cage, a beautiful ornate balustrade, vast brass urns and gilt-edged mirrors, odd ceramics, all dotted among banks of greenery. The hotel offers a seafood restaurant, cocktail bar, saloon, garden on the Old Town Square, also the viewing terrace with its spectacular views of Prague. All serving the best of traditional Czech and international cuisine. Breakfast is a small selection of cereals, bread, ham, cheese, fruits. There is also a hot selection of bacon, egg and sausages.
