PROFILE LORNA TILLING

Lorna in TunisiaLorna was born in a little town called West Wickham in Kent and started riding at the age of 9. Her dad’s comment: “I have never seen Lorna as happy as the first day she sat on a pony”. Lorna recalls the pony’s name was Holly and his character as “a typical stubborn pony highly driven by food”. Lorna stopped riding at 16 when school work intruded and had a break for 6 years until she was earning money of her own and could spend it as she liked!

After school Lorna worked at the Wellcome Trust while earning her degrees: first in biochemistry then pharmacology and then an MSc in scientific communication. This led to a long career in pharmaceutical research until horses became her entire priority again when she joined Unicorn Trails in 2008.

Lorna’s major interest is horses and riding. She owns an (allegedly) Irish draft X Thoroughbred called Finnigan. Lorna hastens to add that the breeding is not confirmed and she suspects a good dollop of bog pony in his ancestry! Together they compete in dressage.

Lorna is a regular Classic FM listener and attends classical concerts when she can. Reading biographies are also on her list for spare time occupations – she likes to find out about people! At the moment she is reading Paul O’Grady.

Lorna has ridden in France, Spain, the UK and Tunisia (Magic of the Desert). She reckons in terms of riding the best was Tunisia, for scenery it had to be Spain and for food it was France. The UK scores on convenience...
